You don’t need to be a senior leader, have a problem to fix or wait until something has gone wrong to benefit from coaching.
People come to coaching for all sorts of reasons. You might be facing a difficult decision, navigating change, dealing with a tricky relationship, stepping into something new or wondering what you want next. You might be doing really well, but want somewhere to think about what could be possible. Or you may simply have a sense that something isn’t quite right, without yet knowing why.
I’ve sought out coaching myself at different points in my life. Sometimes I’ve wanted a different perspective and some distance from a tricky issue, personal or professional. At other times I’ve felt stuck, or realised I was going round in circles in my own thinking. Having someone outside the situation — interested, thoughtful and prepared to challenge me — has helped me feel understood, be a little less hard on myself, and see things I couldn’t always see from the inside.
You don’t need to know exactly what you want from coaching before we talk. Curiosity and a willingness to look at things differently are often enough to begin.
